Dump cranberries into a colander, wash with cool water, and toss out any squished or bad ones you spot.

Pour water and sugar in a medium pot on high flame. Give it a few stirs until sugar melts completely and the liquid starts bubbling.

Toss in cranberries to the bubbling mixture. Let it come back to a boil, then turn down to low heat. Simmer about 10 minutes until you hear most berries pop.
