Vibrant Cranberry Holiday Sauce (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 cup (200g) granulated white sugar.
02 - 1 cup (250ml) fresh cold water.
03 - 4 cups (one 12-ounce bag) whole cranberries, fresh or frozen.
04 - Optional: chopped nuts, orange peel, dried fruit, wild berries, warm spices.

# Instructions:

01 - Dump cranberries into a colander, wash with cool water, and toss out any squished or bad ones you spot.
02 - Pour water and sugar in a medium pot on high flame. Give it a few stirs until sugar melts completely and the liquid starts bubbling.
03 - Toss in cranberries to the bubbling mixture. Let it come back to a boil, then turn down to low heat. Simmer about 10 minutes until you hear most berries pop.
04 - If you want, mix in some goodies like chopped nuts, grated orange skin, or a sprinkle of warm holiday spices to make it your own.
05 - Take the pot off the heat and let everything cool down on the counter. Scoop the mix into a bowl and stick it in the fridge where it'll get thicker as it chills.

# Notes:

01 - Try swapping half the water with fresh orange juice for a zesty kick.
02 - Not sure about sweetness? Start with less sugar and add more later if needed.
03 - This bright side dish shows up on most Thanksgiving tables across America.
